Start with references you can repeat
- Map the boundary
Record the exact area to cover and where every edge meets skin or natural hair.
- Define the finished style
Specify length, parting, direction, exposed hairline, volume, and the haircut that will create the blend.
- Capture natural-hair references
Use controlled, labeled observations of color, gray, density, and texture from the areas that must integrate.
- Choose tradeoffs
State priorities for edge appearance, comfort, attachment, ventilation, cleaning, handling, service, and durability.
- Freeze the version
Give the specification a date or version and record later changes rather than overwriting the starting point.
The specification record
Shape, width, depth, perimeter landmarks, template method, and where natural hair remains.
Color references, gray distribution, density by area, texture, curl, length, direction, and parting.
Material and construction by area, edge design, attachment zones, and known handling limits.
Cut, blend, styling products, heat, exposed edges, and normal viewing conditions.
Which details came from a measured sample, provider recommendation, supplier claim, or an unverified assumption.
What changed after fitting, why it changed, and what should carry into the next order.
Questions that prevent false precision
- Does the supplier's label describe a measured range, a visual category, or only an internal code?
- Are color, gray, density, and texture consistent across the whole system or intentionally varied by area?
- Which sample or lighting condition is the approval reference?
- How will the specification be checked when the system arrives and after it is cut and styled?
- Which deviations can be adjusted locally, and which require a repair or replacement decision?
Before comparing materials
Decide how much coverage you actually need
A detailed specification cannot rescue the wrong coverage category. If the hairline is the main concern, determine whether a frontal-only design fits before specifying a broader system.
